Since the beginning in 1873, Kohler has always respected and admired artists and their craft. In 1974, the company brought artists in residence, officially bridging the gap between art and industry.
Take a closer look and you’ll learn to appreciate the value of Arts/Industry, often cited as the most unusual ongoing collaboration between the arts and industry in the United States.
Debuting in 2013, the Moxie Showerhead + Speaker brought art and industry together in perfect harmony. Cleverly designed to play music, this colorful product caught the eyes, ears and imaginations of judges at several major awards shows including the Industrial Designers Society of America and the Kitchen/Bath Industry Show.
From photo contests to displays of children’s creations, the Kohler China team strongly supported the cultivation of art and design in their communities the past year. Here are some of the highlights from around the country:
Honoring Kohler Co.’s 140th anniversary, a traveling museum exhibit showcased historical fixtures, works from China Bold. Arts artists and the latest in KOHLER® plumbing innovation.
Designers, distributors, developers and Kohler associates travelled to Kohler, Wisconsin, to celebrate 15 new China Bold.Arts works, crafted in collaboration with associates at Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai and recently showcased in 24 cities across China.
The “Love Discovery” associate photo contest encouraged associates to capture stories of love on their cameras. Also, an online design contest, called “I am an artist,” drew 300 participants who submitted future product designs.
Over 500 artists from around the world have contributed their creativity and craft in this artful, acclaimed collaboration. And over time, the combined efforts of artists and the skilled tradespeople of Kohler Co. have come to life to amass a collection of work that is without parallel.
"Life without labor is guilt. Labor without art is brutality."
– John Ruskin
